Rachael in white.

Young Rachael returned to the studio just recently to take part in a shoot for which I’d put together a white set; comprising a simple set-up of backgrounds, covered furniture and some silk flowers.

Rachael’s bright energy and terrific looks made the shoot ‘happen’ as usual, but the set was given some extra punch by make-up artist, Jade. This was the first time I’d had the pleasure of working with Jade and, of course, the first time Rachael had been professionally made-up for a shoot.

We did some ‘before & after’ images and the results were startling and, I have to say, the make-up actually drove the shoot to a certain extent.

Jade is now on my list of people I have to work with again and again and again.

Working with Jenelle.

I was first privileged to see Jenelle at a wedding fayre held at ‘The Club’ in Broxburn, West Lothian. She was part of the team of gorgeous Miss West Lothian candidates who took part in the show. Jenelle was an immediate ‘stand-out’ at the show as she graced the catwalk in her own wedding dress (yes, sorry lads, it’s true) and looked absolutely stunning.

I was then given the opportunity to bring Jenelle to the studio for a portrait shoot. It was Jenelle’s first experience of the studio environment but I have to say she took to it like the proverbial duck to water and could have convinced anyone that she’d been modelling for a while. Husband, Rod, was, I think, as taken a back as I was at how relaxed she was.

The time flew bye, and It was a real treat to work with her; as well has having looks to die for, she also has an easy, professional manner and takes direction very well and i’m definitely looking forward to working with her again soon.

... of Mary and Motorcycles

Local girl, Mary, graced the studio a couple of days back and it was a real pleasure to work with her. Mary brought good looks and a terrific atmosphere to proceedings with her great sense of humour, bright smile and contagious laugh. The session lasted just over three hours but felt more like thirty minutes.

A mum of two, Mary is also a VERY keen motorcyclist who espouses the virtues of Suzuki motorcycles with as much loyal conviction as I do with Canon camera’s. Each to his own I suppose but, at my age, I prefer the equipment I use to be very fast, while I stay firmly rooted to the spot!

Smoke and Glass.

While I get a real kick from wedding and portrait photography, I love, occasionally, to just lose myself in the studio for a few hours and set myself a few photographic tasks which allow me to work on some of the more technical aspects of photography.

I wasn’t really much of an advocate of science when I was at school and dropped the subject as soon as I could, but I wish I hadn’t now; I get a real buzz out of trying to make light work for me: sculpting, directing diffusing and reflecting it in an attempt to get it to do what I want it to.

It sounds pretty easy but, believe me, light is a pretty uncompromising medium to work with, so you have to be both determined and patient.

The following are examples of the work I’ve been doing recently with coloured glass and smoke:

Model material

One of the great things about being a photographer is that it does afford you the opportunity to work with some interesting - and often very pretty - people.

A couple of weeks back I had the opportunity to work with rachael again; a young, Bathgate based girl who has some real potential for making it in the business.

I also had the opportunity to work with Lisa in Helensburgh (pictures still to be processed) with whom I think I managed to capture some interesting work.

The following Youtube effort is constructed from some of the pictures I got from working with the aforementioned, Rachael.
